  • Ghanaian youth reportedly express frustration with the phrase, “Mahama Baako, Termination Bebree.”

The Minority Leader and MP for the Effutu constituency, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has stated that the only song the youth are singing now on the streets of Accra and across the country is “Mahama Baako, Termination Bebree.”

President John Mahama, while presenting the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on the floor of Parliament, mentioned that 2.2 million Ghanaians, especially the youth, are unemployed, adding that it is the country’s biggest challenge.

He noted that youth unemployment threatens national security and, as a result, established the Ministry of Youth Development to address the issue.

The Effutu legislator reminded the President that the rising youth unemployment is due to his numerous dismissals in less than 100 days since assuming office. He added that many of the affected youth were gainfully employed under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“He is telling us today that we have 2.2 million unemployed youth, but what he has forgotten is that under his administration, in less than 100 days, all we know is sackings and dismissals. On the streets of Accra today, the youth of the country are saying, ‘Mahama Baako, Termination Bebree,’” he reiterated.

He made these remarks while speaking on the floor of Parliament following President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address.
