Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has issued a stern warning that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will be held accountable for his alleged actions—whether in life or death—if he refuses to return to Ghana.

Gbande vowed that all necessary steps would be taken to bring Ofori-Atta back to the country and recover any misappropriated public funds.

His remarks come in the wake of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) officially declaring Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations on February 12, 2025. These cases include allegations tied to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and two other major corruption scandals.

At a press briefing, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared Ofori-Atta a wanted man and ordered his immediate return to Ghana for questioning. Agyebeng warned that failure to comply would trigger legal action to enforce his return.

“If Ken Ofori-Atta refuses to come, every measure will be deployed to bring him back. If for any reason he passes on, his dead body will be prosecuted and jailed. Every stolen cedi belonging to the people of Ghana will be retrieved. This is not just a government agenda—it is a mandate,” Agyebeng declared.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Joy News on February 17, Mustapha Gbande reaffirmed his commitment to integrity and public accountability.

“I fear to steal what belongs to the public; I will never steal what belongs to the public. If ever faced with a decision that harms the people of this country, I would rather remain poor so that Ghanaians will respect me for it,” he stated.

Gbande emphasized that he values public trust over personal wealth and would never compromise his principles for financial gain.
