  • Obiri Boahen suggests broader issues like security breakdown were key factors in the party's defeat

Former NPP Deputy General Secretary, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, has fiercely rebuked those accusing him of causing the party’s loss in the 2024 elections, particularly in the Bono Region.

The criticism stems from his remarks on the alleged feud between Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyeman Badu II and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen, speaking in an interview, expressed frustration at being blamed, asserting that he was not part of the NPP campaign team.

He lashed out, questioning why his comments on Bono’s history were being disregarded, while others were welcomed.

“What kind of life is that, if you say my utterances reduced NPP votes in Bono?” he said. He also rejected accusations of being a traitor, asking, “Is it the English you don’t understand?”

Further explaining the party’s defeat, Lawyer Obiri Boahen pointed to broader issues, including a security breakdown, stressing that it was unusual for the NPP to lose both the presidential and parliamentary races, particularly with a 14,000-vote margin in Obuasi West.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen advised NPP members to refrain from insulting individuals such as Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi, Eugene Boakye Antwi, and Edward Akwasi Ennin, who have consistently criticized the party’s leadership following the defeat.

Meanwhile, the December 2024 polls saw John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secure a decisive victory, garnering 56.55% of valid votes cast. His win solidified the NDC’s dominance, with over 180 parliamentary seats secured, leaving the NPP reflecting on its next steps under Bawumia’s leadership.
