Andy Appiah Kubi, the outgoing Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, has raised concerns over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constitution, criticizing it for being outdated and flawed, especially in its method of selecting party leaders.
Speaking in an interview on December 28, the private legal practitioner called for a long-overdue constitutional review, asserting, “The NPP’s constitution is so flawed in selecting leaders within the party.”
Appiah Kubi’s comments came in response to a press conference by NPP National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, who acknowledged the party’s defeat in the recent elections and announced plans for a post-election review.
Ntim revealed that the party would establish an election review committee in January 2025 to assess the causes of the loss and explore reforms.
Appiah Kubi, however, voiced concerns about the party’s use of a monetised system for selecting leaders, stating that it hinders the emergence of the most qualified candidates.
He warned, “Monetisation in the NPP will not bring out the best candidates for leadership roles.”
