  • He questions Dr. Bawumia’s promises, suggesting they are mere rehashes of past administration actions
  • Mahama lambasts President Akufo-Addo’s self-congratulatory statue

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sharply criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as a lack of fresh ideas and exhausted policies.

Speaking to supporters at a rally in the Central Region on Friday, Mahama highlighted the inability of the NPP, particularly its flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to offer new solutions to Ghana’s challenges.

Mahama pointed out that Bawumia’s promises of change are undermined by his involvement in the current administration, which Mahama claims has already failed to address key issues.

“What they will do is what they have already done,” Mahama remarked, accusing the NPP of offering only repetitive strategies rather than innovative solutions.

Mahama also criticized the recent unveiling of a statue of President Akufo-Addo in Takoradi, calling it an act of “self-praise” that does nothing to address the region’s real development needs.

He questioned the symbolism of the monument, suggesting that it represented vanity rather than meaningful progress for the people.

The former president further remarked on the contradiction in Bawumia’s rhetoric, which promises change while still being part of an administration he claims has failed to deliver.

He emphasized that the upcoming election provides an opportunity for Ghanaians to choose leadership that offers new, effective solutions rather than a continuation of ineffective policies.

In his closing remarks, Mahama underscored the need for humility in leadership, criticizing Akufo-Addo’s self-congratulatory actions, such as receiving honorary doctorates from universities while still in office, instead of focusing on tangible improvements for the country.
