Press Conference Highlights
At a press briefing on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the NPP headquarters in Accra, the party’s Electoral and Legal Affairs Committee addressed delays in the collation and declaration of results in some constituencies. Peter Mac Manu, a former National Chairman of the NPP, led the briefing, urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to expedite the collation process to uphold the democratic will of voters.

Call to Action for the EC
Mac Manu emphasized the need for the EC and the National Election Security Taskforce to ensure a smooth and secure collation process. He also appealed to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to control its supporters, claiming their actions have disrupted the process in some areas.

“We implore the EC to resume the collation process without delay and the NDC leadership to ensure calm among their supporters to facilitate a peaceful conclusion,” he stated.

Data-Driven Confidence
The NPP cited polling station data, particularly pink sheets, as the basis for its assertion of victory. Mac Manu noted that the party’s conclusions are supported by verifiable evidence.

“Our parliamentary candidates in these constituencies emerged victorious based on the data we have. We remain resolute in our position,” he asserted.

Emphasis on Peace and Democracy
The NPP also stressed the importance of respecting the will of voters for the sake of democracy and national peace. Mac Manu urged all stakeholders, including political parties and security agencies, to act in the nation’s best interest.

“In the interest of democracy and the peace of Ghana, we call on the EC to ensure the expressed will of voters is honored,” the party stated.

Accusations Against the NDC
The NPP criticized the NDC for allegedly interfering in the collation process, accusing some NDC supporters of causing delays.

“We call on the NDC leadership to demonstrate responsible leadership and ensure their supporters do not undermine the democratic process,” Mac Manu said.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the election results reflect the true will of the Ghanaian electorate.
