NPP Cleans House: MP Cynthia Morrison and 279 Members Expelled for Betraying Party Loyalty

The expulsion comes after the MP’s controversial support for independent candidates and rival parties.

Story Highlights
  • 280 members, including MP Cynthia Morrison, expelled for supporting rival candidates and political parties
  • Expelled members prohibited from holding NPP positions
  • The move aims to maintain unity and adherence to party principles ahead of future elections

The Agona West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 members, including the current Member of Parliament, Cynthia Morrison, effective December 16, 2024.

This decision was made unanimously during an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting on December 15, 2024.

The expelled individuals are now prohibited from presenting themselves as party members, holding party positions, attending meetings or events, or using party symbols and flags. This action follows complaints from fellow party members regarding the expelled members’ support for independent candidates, affiliation with other political parties, and running as independents during the recent parliamentary elections.

The decision was communicated by Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the Constituency Chairman, who noted that the party’s constitution requires such measures to ensure discipline and unity within the NPP.
