- Reports of excessive ballot printing have prompted the NDC to enforce stricter controls
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is raising red flags regarding the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to hire YASARKO for printing election materials.
The party’s “Eagle Eyes” initiative, aimed at closely monitoring the ballot printing process, has encountered significant challenges due to YASARKO’s inconsistent performance.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, took to Facebook to express concerns about YASARKO’s repeated failures to fulfill its obligations, causing frustration among NDC agents who are vigilantly overseeing the operation.
He pointed out that YASARKO’s frequent “excuses” bring into question the company’s competence and the transparency of the contract award process.
NDC agents worry that YASARKO may consider printing ballots offsite, posing a risk to the security of the electoral materials.
Moreover, the team has reported incidents of excessive ballot printing, prompting them to negotiate with printing firms to ensure that any surplus is accounted for before disposal.
“What due diligence did the Electoral Commission conduct before appointing YASARKO? If they secured the contract through questionable means, like outsourcing and potentially smuggling printed ballots, they are mistaken! Our #EAGLEEYES team is relentless! Our dedicated agents, including Richard Jakpa, Lawyer Natongmah, and others, are on the frontline to ensure integrity. Because of their vigilance, companies printing excessive ballots have been compelled to cut back on their overs,” Dr. Boamah stated.
