Nana Yaa Jantuah, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has issued a strong warning to the presidential transition team, calling for a comprehensive review of the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration’s actions.
Speaking during a panel discussion, Jantuah emphasized that the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections were not just a competition between political parties but a contest between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the people of Ghana.
“This year’s election was not just between the NPP, the NDC, and other parties. It was a contest between the NPP and Ghana itself. It mirrors the 1957 elections, where the youth were actively involved in safeguarding the ballot. As a government, you cannot act recklessly and expect to go unchallenged. The youth of Ghana will not forgive the transition team if they fail to do a thorough job,” Jantuah stated firmly.
She urged the transition team to conduct a meticulous examination of all aspects of the outgoing administration, including a detailed review of the National Security’s finances.
Jantuah pointed out that the outgoing government has faced a series of financial and managerial scandals that must be fully investigated.
In line with the Presidential Transition Act of 2012 (Act 845), a Joint Transition Team, made up of representatives from both the Akufo-Addo administration and the incoming Mahama government, was inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
The ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, marked the beginning of the efforts to ensure a smooth and effective transfer of power.
