As part of the vibrant AshantiFest 2025 celebrations, MTN Ghana partnered with regional authorities to extend compassion and care to the Kumasi Central Prison—offering free health screening and a blood donation exercise that brought renewed hope to inmates and staff alike.
The initiative, held in collaboration with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, attracted the support of Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to improving conditions at the prison.
Dr. Amoakohene revealed strategic plans to decongest the correctional facility, including facilitating a presidential amnesty and possibly relocating the prison to a more suitable location.
He also highlighted recent upgrades to the prison’s health center, supported by his office.
He called on the public and stakeholders to collaborate with the Ghana Prisons Service, particularly in expanding skill development and rehabilitation programs.
One key initiative is to commercialize products made by inmates through retail spaces across districts in the Ashanti Region—a move aimed at promoting self-sufficiency and economic reintegration for ex-convicts.
The Regional Commander of the Ghana Prisons Service, DDP Ing. James B. Mwinyelle, also encouraged the public to support the reintegration of former inmates, emphasizing second chances and societal healing.
