Member of Parliament for Atebubu-Amantin, Hon. Sanja Nanja, has revealed that stringent security measures have been implemented to combat the rising spate of armed robbery attacks along the Atebubu-Amantin highway.

Speaking on Lawson TV/Radio’s Ghana Se Sen show, Hon. Sanja Nanja assured the public that these proactive efforts are already yielding positive results.

However, he emphasized that the fight is far from over, pledging continuous action until the menace is completely eradicated.

According to him, local authorities and security agencies have intensified patrols and strategic interventions. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by police officers, particularly after confrontations with frustrated drivers who ply the road. He urged residents and stakeholders to take collective responsibility in addressing the issue.

“Fighting robbery is a shared responsibility. Fortunately, we now have a Regional Minister who is a native of Atebubu, and we will collaborate with him to strengthen our security measures,” he stated confidently. “In the shortest possible time, commuters will see a significant change.”

Adding to the discussion, the Omanhene Twafohene of the area, Nana Ofori Yeboah, lamented the negative impact of these robberies on the region’s economy.

He noted that Atebubu, renowned for its yam cultivation, risks losing its agricultural identity due to persistent criminal activities.

He further disclosed that the Omanhene has already engaged the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the Regional Minister in efforts to combat crime in the area.

With heightened security measures in place, authorities are hopeful that safety and economic activity on the highway will be restored.
