Jose Mourinho has weighed in on Manchester United’s decision to ‘sack’ Sir Alex Ferguson from his ambassadorial role.
Mourinho emphasized that the affection of fans worldwide holds greater significance than the £2 million-a-year salary he will forfeit.
Ferguson is set to end his high-profile position following new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s choice to terminate his contract as part of a cost-reduction initiative.
As Mourinho prepares to face United in the Europa League with Fenerbahce, he reflected on his bond with Ferguson: “My relationship with Sir Alex was amazing, incredible. When my Netflix documentary comes out, you will understand why I hold him in such high regard.
“Regarding the ambassadorial role, I’m not fully aware of the details. But ultimately, it’s clear that Sir Alex has the most important asset: the love and respect of every Manchester United fan globally. That outweighs any role or financial gain.”
