Mfantsipim School achieved an incredible comeback to secure their third National Science and Maths Quiz trophy in the 2024 finals.
Affectionately known as BOTWE, the school stunned the audience in the fifth round by correctly answering a pivotal riddle question, taking a narrow lead over St. Augustine’s College, who had been ahead until that point.
Despite St. Augustine’s strong performance earlier in the contest, they faltered in the final round, allowing Mfantsipim to finish with 47 points, just ahead of St. Augustine’s 46, while Keta SHS rounded out the scores with 32 points.
Alongside the trophy, Mfantsipim received GHC10,000 for achieving the highest score of the day, sponsored by Pepsodent.
This victory marks Mfantsipim’s first win since 2014, adding to their previous titles from 1999. The school has now reached the finals five times in the NSMQ’s history, having placed second in 2000 and 2016.
St. Augustine’s was aiming for their third trophy after wins in 2007 and 2019, while Keta SHS, the current Volta-Oti Zonal champions, put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short against the fierce competition in the finals.
