Manchester United Welcomes Rúben Amorim as New Head Coach
Can Amorim Turn the Tide at United?
- Amorim led Sporting CP to two league titles and multiple cup victories
- He replaces Erik Ten Hag, who was sacked after a poor start to the season
- United currently sits 14th in the Premier League, struggling to find form
Manchester United has officially appointed Rúben Amorim as the club’s new head coach, stepping in after the dismissal of Erik Ten Hag.
Amorim, a former international player for Portugal, arrives from Sporting CP, where he has been at the helm since March 2020, pending the completion of work visa formalities.
In his inaugural full season, Amorim guided Sporting to its first Portuguese league title in 19 years during the 2020-21 season and secured a second championship last year. The 39-year-old has also clinched the Portuguese League Cup twice with Sporting and once with his former club Braga in 2020.
Ten Hag was relieved of his duties following United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham, leaving the team in a disappointing 14th place in the Premier League with just 11 points from nine matches.
While Ten Hag led United to victories in the 2023 League Cup and 2024 FA Cup, the team has faced significant challenges in league play, finishing a record-low eighth last season.
