John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has condemned the recent shooting incident in Mamobi, a neighborhood in Accra, which erupted during clashes between NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters.

Speaking during his campaign tour with the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, Mahama highlighted the need to address national and local issues, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety as the December elections approach.

He expressed concern that a health walk should not devolve into violence, where individuals resort to firearms. Mahama linked the incident to previous unresolved conflicts, such as the Ayawaso West Wuogon disturbances, suggesting these have emboldened aggressors.

He urged societal leaders to denounce such attacks and push for accountability for those responsible. Mahama lamented the helplessness felt in the face of recurring violence, noting that findings from inquiries into similar incidents have often been disregarded.

The weekend’s event, a routine keep-fit walk organized by both parties, turned chaotic when motorbike riders from one faction confronted supporters from the opposing side, leading to a verbal exchange that escalated into violence.

Nine individuals sustained injuries, and police have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident.
