President-elect John Dramani Mahama has vowed to work tirelessly to restore Ghana as the “Black Star of Africa.”
He emphasized that his re-election marks a crucial legacy term, during which he aims to make a lasting positive impact before retiring from politics.
Mahama made this commitment on Friday, December 13, 2024, during a visit from the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, who delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of President Xi Jinping at Mahama’s private residence in Accra.
The president-elect assured the ambassador that Ghana and China would continue their collaboration, and emphasized his openness for future consultations.
“I am your son, and I’ve appreciated the advice and counsel you’ve offered over the years,” Mahama said. “My doors will always be open for consultations, and I welcome continued collaboration.”
He also acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating, “The easy part—the elections—is over. Now, the hard work begins. We need to bring Ghana back and restore it to being the Black Star of Africa, and I assure you, I will give it my best.”
Mahama described his upcoming term as a “legacy term,” with a focus on securing a strong future for Ghana before he transitions into retirement. “You can count on me to work as hard as I can to move Ghana to where it should be,” he added.
