n Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the underperformance of the Black Stars, linking it to the country’s deteriorating governance.
He made these remarks following the national football team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, a major blow to Ghana’s pride.
Speaking at a rally in Akim Oda on November 19 during his Eastern Region tour, Mahama urged Ghanaians to vote for change in the upcoming December 7 elections, highlighting that the nation’s decline under NPP leadership has even affected the national football team.
He pointed out that for the past two decades, the Black Stars have consistently participated in AFCON, but this year, they couldn’t even qualify—something countries like war-torn Sudan managed to achieve.
“Everything has been lost under this administration, even our beloved Black Stars. This failure is a result of the bad governance we’ve endured for eight years. But we have the power to change that on December 7. Let’s vote for change peacefully,” Mahama emphasized.
