Mahama: ORAL is a Tool for Accountability, Not a Witch Hunt

President Mahama clarifies that the anti-corruption initiative is aimed at recovering stolen public funds, not persecuting political opponents.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is a dedicated effort to combat corruption and uphold accountability in public office, not a tool for targeting individuals unfairly.

Addressing the Ghana Bar Association on Wednesday, Mahama emphasized that ORAL provides a structured platform for whistleblowers to report corruption cases, ensuring proper investigations rather than politically motivated actions.

“Corruption and mismanagement of public funds have become rampant, and Ghanaians expect stronger action,” he stated, highlighting that the issue ranked among the top concerns in the last campaign.

Mahama revealed that ORAL’s dedicated hotline had received over 2,000 reports, with credible cases referred to the Attorney General for further action. He assured that the initiative prioritizes due process and fairness, rejecting claims that it is a tool for political persecution.

“This is not about witch-hunting; it is about fighting corruption,” Mahama asserted, reinforcing the government’s commitment to transparency and good governance.
