- Mahama calls for accountability on critical economic issues
- The former president highlights a significant increase in national debt
- He questions Bawumia’s shift in focus from economic management to digitalization
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the upcoming 2024 elections, has directed a series of pointed questions at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful.
During his tour of the Northern Region, Mahama criticized Bawumia for shifting his focus from economic discussions to digitalization initiatives, arguing that this shift signifies a neglect of urgent economic challenges facing the country.
He remarked that Bawumia, who was once outspoken about economic issues, seems to have abandoned the topic, now prioritizing digitalization instead.
Mahama’s questions for Bawumia include:
- Why is the exchange rate GH¢17 to $1?
- How did Ghana’s debt escalate from GH¢120 billion to GH¢767 billion in just eight years?
- What has caused inflation to soar, peaking at 54 percent during your administration?
- Why did you borrow GH¢42 billion from the Bank of Ghana, leading to the Central Bank’s record loss of GH¢60 billion?
- Why have you stopped giving lectures on economic matters?
