President-elect John Dramani Mahama has assured outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of his unwavering support for a seamless transfer of power.
Speaking at the inauguration of the National Transition Team at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mahama reiterated his respect for Akufo-Addo and his administration. “Mr. President, you can count on my respect and cooperation during and even after this transition,” he stated.
Mahama urged the transition team to prioritize national unity and foster a spirit of nationalism throughout the process. The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for an untroubled and efficient transition.
The handover officially commenced on December 11 at the Jubilee House, marking the beginning of a structured process under the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845). This includes briefing the incoming administration on state matters, providing access to critical data, and organizing the formal inauguration of the President-elect.
Outgoing President Akufo-Addo also emphasized the importance of a smooth and peaceful transition, underscoring Ghana’s democratic resilience. The collaborative efforts of both leaders reaffirm the nation’s commitment to governance principles and political maturity.
