Mahama Accuses Akufo-Addo of Clinging to Power to Escape Scrutiny
Mahama Vows to Uncover the Truth Behind Alleged Corruption
- Mahama claims Akufo-Addo's reluctance to hand over power stems from concerns about facing accountability
- Mahama alleges that Akufo-Addo is maneuvering to position Vice President Bawumia as his successor
- If elected, Mahama promises to investigate the alleged misuse of state funds during Akufo-Addo's presidency
John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of being hesitant to transfer power due to worries about accountability.
Mahama suggests that Akufo-Addo is concerned about facing scrutiny if the NDC regains control, prompting him to promote his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as his successor in an attempt to shield his administration from future investigations.
Speaking to NDC supporters in Lugni, Wulensi constituency on October 29, Mahama vowed that if elected in 2024, he would ensure a thorough investigation into the alleged misuse of state funds during Akufo-Addo’s presidency.
“Instead of a smooth transition with his Vice President, he wants to impose Dr. Bawumia on the people of Ghana.
The real reason he’s unwilling to hand over power to me is his fear of accountability; we will ask the tough questions and hold those who have misappropriated public funds responsible,” Mahama stated.
