Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as Lil Win, has revealed his plans to contest the Afigya Kwabere North parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in 2028.
Lil Win explained that he decided not to contest in the 2024 elections after receiving calls from influential figures who persuaded him to step down. However, he remains resolute about his political ambitions.
“In 2028, I’m coming like a wounded lion to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate. Say heat!” he boldly declared.
Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio’s Ghana Se Sen show, Lil Win predicted that the 2028 elections will see an increase in independent parliamentary candidates. He believes that if constituents feel things are not progressing well in their area, they will choose to run as independents.
Explaining why he did not campaign for any political party in the 2024 election, he shared that, as a beloved actor who also owns a school, revealing his political affiliation could lead to unnecessary controversy. Therefore, he chose to stay neutral.
He mentioned that he voted in the election but will not disclose which party he supported unless caught on camera.
Lil Win lamented that the dominance of English in politics has discouraged many young Ghanaians from participating.
“English has driven a lot of youth away from doing politics,” he stated, emphasizing his vision to break this barrier if elected.
He further shared his intention to address Parliament in Twi, with interpretations provided in English, noting that many parliamentarians are Akans who can communicate effectively in the local language.
