Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as “Mama G,” has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Theatre and Media Arts by the Achievers Network Academy in the United Kingdom.
The 66-year-old actress was recognized for her outstanding contributions to Nollywood and African cinema over the years.
The award ceremony, held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, was presented by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and attended by fellow celebrities, friends, and family.
The event also honoured Yoruba actors Adebayo Salami and Jide Kosoko for their influential roles in the industry.
Expressing her joy on Instagram, Ozokwo shared her excitement: “Today was like a movie. Honorary Doctorate Degree. Thank you, UNILAG. Thank you.”
The honourees were celebrated for their significant impact in making Nollywood a global force, including their memorable performances, mentorship of upcoming talent, and the promotion of African culture through film.
Ozokwo, a pioneering figure in Nollywood, began her career as a radio announcer before gaining fame with the 1999 film Authority. With over 100 films to her name, her iconic roles include Ukwa (2001), Blood Sister (2003), and Billionaires Club (2003).
