  • Tanko criticizes the politicization of protests

Alhaji Kwame Tanko, the dynamic host of the ‘Ghana Se Sen’ Morning Show, on Lawson TV&Radio has shared his insights on the escalating tensions between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the December elections approach.

He emphasized that the upcoming elections are a critical juncture for Ghana and called on the youth to stay alert.

Alhaji Tanko highlighted the fierce determination of both parties, saying the NDC is eager to reclaim power while the NPP is fighting to hold onto it, making the election a do-or-die affair.

He stressed that this rivalry necessitates a vigilant populace and urged young people not to be swayed by politicians to engage in violence.

“I’ve noticed some individuals seem intent on dragging Ghana into chaos, and it’s vital for the youth to prioritize the nation’s interests over political agendas,” he remarked.

Alhahji Tanko also expressed his dismay at how some young people have been incited by politicians to act against their better judgment.

He turned his attention to the issue of illegal mining, known as galamsey, which he described as wreaking havoc on the country’s environment.

He lamented the destruction caused by galamsey activities, stating that it brings him to tears to witness the devastation in affected areas.

He asserted that combating galamsey requires a united front and should not be politicized.

Although he praised the Democracy Hub protest against illegal mining, he criticized the movement’s later politicization, particularly condemning the actions of convener Oliver Barker Vormawor for seizing police car keys during the protest.

Alhaji Tanko noted that such behavior was unwarranted, emphasizing that in Ghana, all offenses are bailable.

He questioned Barker Vormawor’s commitment to his claims of being ‘Osagyefo’, pointing out the lack of appropriate medical treatment he received at the Police Hospital following his detention.
