Kwame A Plus, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has made it clear that his primary responsibility in Parliament will be to serve his constituents, not to advocate for the creative industry.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, A Plus emphasized that his mandate comes directly from the people of Gomoa Central, not from the entertainment sector. He explained, “I don’t want anyone to think that I am going to Parliament to represent the interests of the creative industry. My focus is on the people of Gomoa Central, who placed their trust in me through their votes.”
He further clarified that no groups from the creative industry, such as the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) or the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), supported his campaign. Instead, his election was driven solely by the support of his constituents.
“No creative industry organization put me in Parliament. It was the people of Gomoa Central who elected me. A few of my friends from the industry supported me, but my mandate is from the people, not from the entertainment sector,” he said.
A Plus also referenced Shatta Wale’s ongoing advocacy for the creative industry, suggesting that industry players should pay attention to his insights. “Shatta Wale has been speaking a lot of sense. They should listen to him—it will benefit them,” he added.
The musician won the Gomoa Central seat with 14,277 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,640 votes.
Reflecting on his preparation for a political career, A Plus shared that he pursued higher education, including a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree, and an LLB, to equip himself with the necessary knowledge for the role. “I made sure I was prepared for this journey, and I’m glad it’s paid off,” he concluded.
