President Akufo-Addo proudly reflected on the successful implementation of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy, which his government launched in 2017.

Speaking at the 75th Anniversary of Prempeh College in Kumasi, he highlighted that, despite various global economic challenges and the setbacks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, his administration has remained steadfast in providing free secondary education for all Ghanaian students.

“I take pride in the fact that, even during tough times, we have upheld the Free SHS policy,” said the President. He emphasized his government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring that every child in Ghana has access to quality education.

Since its introduction, the Free SHS initiative has expanded educational opportunities for over 5.7 million students, earning praise for its positive impact. Nonetheless, it has encountered obstacles such as funding issues, inadequate infrastructure, and concerns over educational quality.

President Akufo-Addo affirmed that his government is actively addressing these challenges, highlighting significant investments in the education sector—more than any previous administration.

He also announced plans to enhance educational quality through new programs and initiatives aimed at supporting both students and teachers.

The ongoing success of the Free SHS policy is poised to further improve education in Ghana and positively influence the country’s human development indicators.
