Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has boldly declared his intention to run in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race, emphasizing that no one can prevent him from pursuing his political ambitions.

His announcement came shortly after he made the decision to withdraw from the NPP’s ongoing “Thank You” tour, citing security concerns for his supporters following a violent incident at a party event in Bantama, Kumasi.

The event, held at the Pentecost Church, saw a student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) affiliated with Unity Hall’s Jama group, being stabbed.

The student had been hired by Agyapong’s team to perform at the event. The attack has raised alarms over internal tensions and safety within the party.

Addressing the media, Agyapong stated that the attack highlighted broader security concerns for his team but reiterated his unwavering commitment to his political goals.

Despite pulling back from the tour, he reaffirmed his determination to contest for the NPP flagbearership.

“I will contest, and they should be ready. Nobody can stop me from contesting because we have contributed to the party right from the start,” Agyapong asserted.
