- Akpaloo aims to safeguard Ghana’s electoral integrity and encourage responsible behavior among political actors
Kofi Akpaloo, presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has urged European embassies to implement visa bans on individuals who attempt to disrupt Ghana’s upcoming December 7 elections.
He believes this move would act as a deterrent to electoral misconduct, preventing offenders from traveling abroad.
His appeal comes in light of the recent decision by the United States to impose a similar visa restriction policy on those undermining democratic processes. The U.S. policy, announced on October 28, focuses on specific individuals, not the general Ghanaian population or government.
In a statement to the media, Akpaloo shared that he had personally spoken with U.S. Ambassador Virginia Evelyn Palmer, asking her to encourage European embassies to adopt comparable measures.
He is optimistic that this could help ensure a peaceful election and hold stakeholders accountable for their actions.
Akpaloo also mentioned that Ambassador Palmer confirmed plans to support this initiative, with expectations that the British High Commission would follow suit.
