Kofi Adams, Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, has expressed deep sentiments over the loss of former President Jerry John Rawlings, stating that he misses him greatly during the current challenges facing Ghana.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen morning show on Lawson TV/Radio with Kwame Tanko, Kofi Adams reflected on Rawlings’ legacy and remarked, “God knows why He took Rawlings away, but I truly miss him in times like these. I wonder what he would have done if he were alive today, especially with the collapse of many sectors and the environmental degradation.”
Rawlings, who passed away at 73 on November 12, 2020, was a towering figure in Ghanaian history.
He led two coups, the first in 1979, before being elected president twice in multiparty elections. Known for his charisma, Rawlings gained popularity by fighting corruption and championing the cause of the poor, although his tenure also faced criticism for alleged human rights abuses.
Kofi Adams, who worked closely with Rawlings, described him as a patriotic leader who welcomed constructive criticism and dialogue.
“Working with Rawlings was never difficult. He always based his arguments on facts and encouraged others to share their views. If you disagreed, he wanted you to look him in the eye and challenge him. He created an environment where everyone could contribute meaningfully,” Adams said.
Kofi Adams further highlighted Rawlings’ deep concern for the suffering of ordinary Ghanaians, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to addressing their challenges.
