The 2024 elections, though largely peaceful, saw tragic incidents in some regions, resulting in at least three fatalities and several injuries. During a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, Mahama pledged to ensure justice for the victims while emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.

“I am pleased with the successful elections but saddened by the incidents that led to the loss of lives. If the current government does not address these tragedies, we will launch a thorough investigation upon assuming office,” Mahama stated.

In addition, Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s ties with the EU, focusing on economic recovery and attracting foreign investments amidst the nation’s financial challenges.

EU Ambassador Razaaly commended Mahama on his election victory and for appointing Ghana’s first female Vice President-elect, describing it as a progressive milestone for the nation.

The Electoral Commission declared Mahama the winner of the December 9 polls, securing 56.55% of the votes against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, who received 41.61%.
