OFFICIAL: Jean Mensa Declares John Mahama President-Elect with 56.55% of Votes
Mahama wins Ghana's 2024 Presidential Election with a decisive majority
- John Dramani Mahama of the NDC wins with 56.55% (6,382,397 votes)
- Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP follows with 41.61% (4,657,304 votes)
- Electoral Commission lauds the process as credible, fair, and transparent
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, has officially declared John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential Election.
Announcing the results at the Commission’s headquarters in Accra on Monday, December 9, Jean Mensa stated that Mr. Mahama secured 6,382,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes cast.
His closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, equivalent to 41.61%.
The remaining candidates recorded the following results:
- Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar) of the New Force Movement: 84,478 votes (0.75%)
- Alan Kyerematen of the Movement for Change: 31,202 votes (0.28%)
- Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana: 16,072 votes (0.09%)
- Nana Akosua Sarpong of the CPP: 23,397 votes (0.21%)
- Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM): 16,461 votes (0.15%)
- Daniel Lartey of GCPP: 16,672 votes (0.15%)
Jean Mensa stated that the total number of valid votes was 11,191,422, with 239,109 votes rejected and a total of 11,430,531 votes cast.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I have the singular honor as the Returning Officer of the 2024 Presidential Election to declare His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election and the President-elect of Ghana, with a total percentage of 56.55%. Congratulations, sir—it is finished,” Jean Mensa announced.
She lauded the electoral process, stating, “The voters of Ghana have spoken, and their decision has been upheld by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. We have conducted elections that are credible, fair, transparent, and peaceful, fulfilling our commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness.”
