- Comprehensive training and the introduction of aide-memoires are underway to equip officials
The Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa, has announced the recruitment of nearly 210,000 temporary officials to oversee the 2024 elections.
These recruits will fill key roles such as returning officers, deputy returning officers, presiding officers, and polling assistants across the country’s 40,900 polling stations.
In a recent meeting with security officials ahead of the December 7 elections, Jean Mensa emphasized that these officials are undergoing extensive training, with the introduction of aide-memoires designed to provide them with clear instructions based on feedback from field officers and election observers.
Jean Mensa also assured the public that all Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) will be safely secured by the police by the weekend.
The devices have already been deployed to eight regions and are being kept in secure armories.
Additionally, ballot papers for most regions have been distributed, with those for the Northern, Bono, and Bono East Regions scheduled for delivery by November 26.
Both the EC and security officials have pledged to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
