Israel’s ongoing military actions have resulted in the deaths of five medical staff members at one of the last functioning hospitals in northern Gaza, according to the facility’s director.
This comes as yet another baby has died from the cold in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Hussam Abu Safia, the head of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, confirmed that those killed in the attack included a doctor, a laboratory technician, and two maintenance workers.
Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary, reporting from central Gaza, noted that the hospital has been operating with minimal resources and supplies, and has been a target of repeated Israeli airstrikes. “Israeli forces have been attacking the surroundings of Kamal Adwan Hospital, sending quadcopters into the hospital and shooting at Palestinians,” she said.
The hospital has been severely damaged by near-daily attacks, leaving it non-operational. Previously, Israeli forces had killed the director of the hospital’s ICU, Dr. Ahmed al-Kahlout, and wounded dozens of medical staff in strikes on and around the facility.
Palestinian rescue workers have been unable to recover the bodies of those killed at the hospital due to the ongoing violence. “People are unable to bury those Palestinians who are being killed every single day by Israeli forces in northern Gaza,” Khoudary added.
