Kwadjo Asante, the MP for Suhum Constituency, known affectionately as ‘Boafo,’ has firmly rejected rumors that he plans to withdraw as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections.

The speculation began circulating after a photograph of him with the Majority Leader gained attention following an indefinite adjournment of Parliament.

Samuel Baah Gosh, the spokesperson for Asante’s campaign team, clarified in an interview that the MP remains committed to contesting the Suhum seat as an independent candidate on December 7, 2024.

“Hon. Kwadjo Asante is still in the race, and he will be contesting as an independent candidate,” Gosh asserted.

Local residents expressed their support for Asante, emphasizing his contributions to the community.

“I’ve heard the rumors, but I know he’s not stepping down. The case is still in court, and only the court can decide his fate,” one resident stated. Another added, “Unlike our former MP, Opare Ansah, who served for 16 years without significant development, Kwadjo Asante has been a catalyst for progress.”

Supporters of Asante have voiced strong reactions to the rumors, with some even threatening drastic measures if he were to withdraw.

“If he backs down, we will burn his car. He can’t play with our hopes,” one supporter warned, citing the tangible improvements in infrastructure and services that have taken place during Asante’s tenure.

The community stands united behind their MP, ready to rally in support of his candidacy.
