Herbert Mensah, the President of World Rugby’s African Association and former Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has stated that Ghana is no longer a great sporting nation.
In an interview, Mensah expressed his frustration following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the first time in two decades that the country will not participate in the prestigious tournament.
Ghana’s poor performance in the qualifiers, where they went winless, contributed to this setback.
Mensah also pointed to Ghana’s lackluster performances in other major international competitions, such as the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, as signs that the nation’s sporting status has diminished.
The veteran sports administrator emphasized that these recent failures reflect a broader decline in Ghana’s sporting achievements.
