The President of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA), Dr. Joseph Obeng, has praised Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, for his commitment to scrap both the E-Levy and betting tax in the upcoming government budget, pending confirmation.
In an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV/Radio‘s Ghana Se Sen show, Dr. Obeng emphasized that stability in the local currency is vital for the business community.
He pointed out that the high cost of doing business in Ghana is exacerbated by numerous taxes, which ultimately drive up the prices of goods and foodstuffs.
He stressed the urgent need for drastic tax reductions and simplified payment systems to help businesses thrive in the country.
“If Ato Forson removes these taxes, it will greatly benefit us by easing our burdens, lowering costs, and improving the work of manufacturers. This is something we’ve consistently raised concerns about, and reducing these taxes would be a step in the right direction.”
