The Western North Regional Police have arrested two individuals for the illegal possession and reckless discharge of firearms during a funeral ceremony in Attakrom, near Bibiani.
The arrests follow a viral video, posted on social media on March 14, showing the suspects firing weapons into the air in a public display of bravado.
The shocking footage, which spread rapidly online, depicted several young men—some in funeral attire—brandishing firearms, including pump-action shotguns, as loud music and chants filled the air.
The police moved swiftly after the video gained widespread attention, leading to the identification and detention of the two suspects.
A series of intelligence-led operations, overseen by the Regional Crime Officer, enabled the police to track down the individuals.
Authorities are now working to trace the origins of the firearms and identify any other individuals involved.
Preliminary investigations suggest more than two people participated in the reckless shooting, and the police are urging the public to provide any information that could aid in the ongoing investigation.
