The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to take immediate action to restore law and order in the wake of the 2024 general election results.

The GJA voiced concerns over reports of violent incidents, including vandalism and disruptions at key government facilities, allegedly carried out by individuals linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, GJA President, addressed the media on December 10, urging the President to act swiftly to protect the nation’s stability.

The association also appealed to political leaders, civil society groups, and all stakeholders to work together to reduce tensions and foster peace.

The GJA reminded Ghanaians that upholding order and respecting democratic processes is crucial for maintaining the country’s reputation as a democratic leader in Africa.

“We urge President Akufo-Addo, who remains in office until January 7 and serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, to ensure peace and order throughout the nation,” said Dwumfour.

“It is his constitutional responsibility, and as the current leader, we call on him to ensure security forces take swift action to ease the growing tensions among Ghanaians.”
