GJA Pressures Police for More Action After Arrest in Ahmed Suale Murder Case
Suspect Arraigned as GJA Calls for Further Action to Ensure Full Justice

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has praised the Ghana Police Service for a major breakthrough in the murder case of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
The recent arrest of a key suspect, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice.
Koranteng was arraigned before the Madina District Court on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and remanded into police custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for April 1.
In a statement, the GJA acknowledged its ongoing engagement with senior police officials and commended Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno and CID Director-General DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor for their dedication to the case.
More than six years after Suale’s assassination on January 16, 2019, this arrest represents a major advancement following years of relentless advocacy by the GJA.
However, the association urged law enforcement to intensify efforts to apprehend all those involved.
“We hope this major breakthrough in the arrest and prosecution of suspect Daniel Owusu Koranteng is just the beginning of the long journey to justice for Ahmed Suale,” the GJA stated.
Suale’s unresolved murder has negatively impacted Ghana’s press freedom rankings, prompting the GJA to consider escalating the case to the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice if progress stalled beyond March 2025.
The association also continues to push for updates on other unresolved journalist assault cases, including that of Latif Iddrisu.
The GJA has updated its international partners, including the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), both of which have pledged support in pursuing justice on a global scale.
Reaffirming its commitment, the GJA stressed that this arrest must be a turning point in ensuring accountability for crimes against journalists in Ghana.
