The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has pledged to facilitate mediation in the ongoing Bawku conflict, emphasizing that Ghana cannot afford to let the crisis threaten its unity and progress.
During a meeting at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi with a government delegation led by Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, the Asantehene expressed deep concern over the devastating impact of the conflict.
The violence in Bawku, located in the Upper East Region, has led to significant loss of lives, displacement of thousands, and stunted development in the area.
He urged all parties involved to set aside their differences and commit to finding a peaceful resolution. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah reiterated the government’s ongoing military and diplomatic efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
