On December 2, 2024, Ghana officially launched its chip-embedded passport, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward modernization and global recognition.

The launch event, held at the Accra International Conference Center, was attended by key officials including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who described the initiative as the beginning of a new chapter in Ghana’s development.

The new passport features advanced security technology and celebrates Ghana’s cultural identity with elements like adinkra symbols representing values of freedom, unity, and resilience.

President Akufo-Addo commended the collaboration between the public and private sectors in making the project a success and acknowledged the support of Hungary in bringing the initiative to fruition.

Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey emphasized that the chip-embedded passport is more than a technological upgrade it reflects Ghana’s commitment to efficiency, security, and adherence to international standards.

This new passport system is a key step in positioning Ghana as a leader in Africa’s technological and security advancements.
