On December 30, 2024, several distinguished Ghanaians were celebrated with prestigious national honours for their exceptional service and contributions to the nation’s development.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented the awards in recognition of their hard work, sacrifices, and achievements in various fields.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received the highest award of the year, the Order of the Star of Ghana – Officer Award. This prestigious honor led a list of government officials, MPs, and public figures who were acknowledged at the 2024 National Honours and Awards ceremony held in Accra.

Other notable honorees included Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, awarded the Order of the Volta – Officer Award, and a host of other Members of Parliament and government appointees such as Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Kwasi Amoako-Atta.

The creative arts sector was well represented, with iconic figures like Daddy Lumba, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, and Juliet Asante honored for their contributions to music and the arts.

Additional awards included the Order of the Volta – Member category for individuals such as Nana Kwasi Agyekum Dwamena and Prof. Paul Kwame Nyame, highlighting achievements in public service, health, and civil society.

The National Honours and Awards, established in 1960, continue to be a hallmark of Ghana’s recognition of excellence in various fields. The Presidential Honours for Distinguished Service, introduced in 2023, also celebrated those who demonstrated extraordinary resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
