  • GFA reaffirms zero-tolerance policy on violence and vows strict sanctions for those responsible

In light of the violent events during the February 2, 2025, fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Nana Koramansah Park, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has postponed Matchday 20 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

This decision is part of the GFA’s effort to engage with key stakeholders and assess the impact of the violence.

A statement from the GFA revealed that the delay allows for deeper discussions on the implications of the incident and the development of strategies to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The postponement follows the GFA’s strong condemnation of the violent acts during the GPL Matchday 19 encounter, which led to the tragic death of a Kotoko fan, several injuries, and property damage. The GFA expressed its deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and wished the injured a speedy recovery, calling the violence an “unacceptable blemish” on the sport.

As a precaution, the GFA has imposed an indefinite ban on Nsoatreman FC’s home venue, citing safety concerns while investigations continue. The GFA Security Committee, along with the Ghana Police Service, is actively looking into the incident. The GFA reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on violence, warning that those responsible will face severe consequences.

As the league takes a pause, the GFA has promised to keep the public informed of any updates from the Disciplinary Committee and ongoing police investigations. The hope is that stronger security measures will be implemented to protect the integrity of Ghanaian football moving forward.
