George Afriyie Questions GFA's Justifications for Partey’s Absence from Sudan Matches
- George Afriyie has expressed concerns
- The GFA stated that Partey missed the AFCON qualifying double-header due to a medical issue
- Ghana currently sits third in Group F with two points
George Afriyie has expressed concerns over the explanations provided by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the absence of Thomas Partey, Joseph Paintsil, and Osman Bukari during the Sudan matches.
The GFA stated that Partey missed the AFCON qualifying double-header due to a medical issue, while Bukari and Paintsil were sidelined because of “pains” they experienced in their previous matches.
Afriyie, the former Black Stars Management Committee Chairman, found these justifications questionable.
The Black Stars drew the first leg goalless in Accra last Thursday before losing the return fixture 2-0 in Libya on Tuesday.
“There are many unanswered questions about why we failed to secure a win here in Ghana, and the media should press for answers,” Afriyie said.
“I’m not convinced by the excuses being offered for Partey, Paintsil, and Bukari’s absences. They expect you to just accept them without question.”
Ghana currently sits third in Group F with two points from four matches and is at risk of missing out on AFCON qualification for the first time in 20 years. The Black Stars will return to action in November for their final two qualifying matches against Niger and Angola.
