The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on his decisive electoral victory.

In a formal letter, President Putin expressed his best wishes for Mahama’s success, good health, and well-being as he prepares to assume office.

“Esteemed Mr. Mahama! Please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of your election as the President of the Republic of Ghana. I wish you every success as well as good health and well-being,” the Russian leader stated.

President Putin further emphasized optimism for Ghana-Russia relations, highlighting their historically friendly ties and expressing hope for enhanced cooperation across various sectors.

“The Russian-Ghanaian relations have traditionally been of a friendly nature. I believe that Your work as the Head of State will contribute to the further development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in various fields,” Putin added.

The Electoral Commission officially declared Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as President-elect on December 9, 2024. Mahama secured over 56% of the total votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The former president’s return to power will commence with his swearing-in ceremony on January 7, 2025, ushering in a new chapter of leadership as Ghanaians look forward to his administration.
