Free SHS Will Be the Game Changer for NPP in the Election – Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former GFA President highlights the impact of Free SHS on NPP’s electoral prospects.

Story Highlights
  • The Free SHS policy is Ghana’s largest social intervention since independence
  • 5.7 million Ghanaians have benefited from Free SHS
  • The NPP is expected to benefit politically, with many Free SHS beneficiaries likely voting for them in the upcoming election

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has underscored that the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagship program, the Free Senior High School policy, will be the game changer for the party in the December 7 election.

Mr. Nyantakyi said the NPP has demonstrated that it is a party that cares about Ghanaians.

Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen program, he stated that the NPP has championed several social intervention policies to assist the poor.

He mentioned that since Ghana’s independence in 1957, the biggest social intervention the country has had is the Free SHS policy.

“Before Free SHS, between 1957 and 2017, 800,000 Ghanaian children attended SHS, but after the implementation of the policy, 5.7 million Ghanaians have benefited,” he said.

The former GFA president lamented that there were brilliant students who could not attend SHS due to financial constraints, but now all the brilliant but needy students have access to SHS thanks to the Free SHS policy.

He added that the Free SHS policy is working in favor of the NPP, noting that many beneficiaries will vote for the NPP, and if the NPP wins, it would be difficult for another party to come to power.

Kwesi Nyantakyi concluded that it would be relatively easier for the NPP to win the next election after this year’s election.
