  • He was granted GH₵100,000 bail with two sureties
  • Inkoom will appear in court again on January 22, 2025

Samuel Inkoom, the former Ghana Black Stars player, has been granted bail of GH₵100,000 with two sureties by an Accra court over accusations of visa fraud.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Susana Eduful, also mandated that each surety must have a minimum monthly income of GH₵5,000. Inkoom has been instructed to submit a passport-sized photograph to the court registry.

The footballer faces allegations of taking $4,000 from Madam Elizabeth Atarime Mboh Awuni, under the pretense of securing a U.S. visa for her. However, Inkoom has denied the charges. He will appear in court again on January 22, 2025.

Case Details

According to Police Chief Inspector Tetteh Boafo, the complainants, Madam Awuni, an entrepreneur, and Madam Abigail Owusu, a public servant, both reside in Oyarifa, Accra, while Inkoom lives in Sekondi Takoradi.

In December 2023, Awuni met Inkoom during a visit to Achimota to scout football talent. Inkoom, claiming to be involved in the travel and tour industry, promised to secure U.S. and Canadian visas for $4,000 within six weeks.

Convinced, Awuni paid the amount for the visa, and Madam Owusu separately paid $2,000 for the same service. However, Inkoom allegedly failed to deliver the visas within the promised timeframe and went into hiding.

The victims reported the case to the police. Inkoom admitted to receiving the money but claimed to have sent it to a partner in the U.S. for visa processing, though he could not provide proof of the partnership. Investigations revealed that Inkoom had fabricated the story, and there was no such partner in the U.S.

Recovery and Court Appearance

The police recovered $2,000 from Inkoom, which was returned to Madam Awuni. Inkoom has been charged and is scheduled to appear in court on January 22, 2025, for further proceedings.
