Exploring Inclusive Economic Opportunities in Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, and Technology to Break Barriers and Foster Women's Empowerment.

The Business and Financial Times (B&FT), in partnership with Ecobank Ghana, has successfully hosted the Women in Business Dialogue Series in Kumasi.

The forum was under the theme, “Creating an Inclusive Economy – Scaling Jobs for Women through Agriculture, Entrepreneurship & Technology.”

This year’s event aimed to amplify discussions on creating sustainable and inclusive economic opportunities for women, focusing on agriculture, entrepreneurship, and technology. Over 150 participants attended the forum, including smallholder farmers, women-led Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), market queens, young women in tech, and students.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, represented by Mrs. Imelda Agyeiwaa Kumah, delivered a special address, commending B&FT for its dedication to promoting gender inclusivity.

He highlighted the pivotal role of women in driving the economy, from the bustling markets of Kumasi to the innovative enterprises emerging across the region.

“Women are the backbone of Ghana’s economy, contributing immensely to agriculture, entrepreneurship, and various industries,” Dr. Amoakohene emphasized.

However, he expressed concern over the persistent systemic barriers that limit women’s potential despite their significant role in the labor force.

He also highlighted the NDC government’s commitment to establishing a Women Development Bank, a campaign promise from the 2024 elections.

He described the proposed bank as a game changer that would empower women entrepreneurs, activate economic growth, and strengthen communities across Ghana.

Dr. Godwin Acquaye, CEO of B&FT, emphasized the need to support women, stating, “If Ghana is to progress, we must uplift and protect our women because they are central to our families, communities, and the future.”

Representing Ecobank Ghana, Mrs. Regina Ofori, Head of Marketing, affirmed the bank’s commitment to empowering women in business. She encouraged women not to feel isolated but to join networks and communities that can provide valuable ideas and resources to support their growth.

The Women in Business Dialogue Series in Kumasi has once again underscored the critical role of women in Ghana’s economic development and the need for continued support to break barriers and create equitable opportunities.
