President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed strong confidence in the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct transparent, free, and fair elections as Ghana approaches the highly anticipated 2024 general polls.

In a national address on the eve of the December 7 election, the President commended the EC for its efficiency and transparency, urging Ghanaians to support electoral officials to uphold the country’s democratic legacy.

“The Electoral Commission is now a more transparent and efficient institution we can trust to deliver an election that truly reflects the will of the people. Let us all cooperate to make this a proud moment in Ghana’s democratic journey,” he stated.

The 2024 election, the ninth under the Fourth Republic, features a tightly contested presidential race between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

It also marks a critical turning point amid economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and public debt.

While the NPP campaigns on digital transformation and infrastructure, the NDC focuses on addressing inequalities and job creation, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle over Ghana’s leadership and 275 parliamentary seats.
