Blay Nyameke Armah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has claimed the Sekondi parliamentary seat, defeating the incumbent Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Armah secured 14,558 votes (56.40%) against Mercer’s 11,084 votes (42.94%) in a tightly contested election. Out of 25,813 votes cast, 171 were rejected.
This outcome marks a significant shift in Sekondi’s political landscape, ending Egyapa Mercer’s tenure, which began with a landslide victory in 2016 when he garnered 59.47% of the votes.
Armah’s triumph highlights the NDC’s growing influence in the constituency amid fiercely competitive races across the nation in the 2024 elections.
